Welcome! The Howard University College of Medicine Chapter of Student National Medical Association is home to one of the first SNMA Chapters in the National. SNMA was established in 1964 by medical students at Howard University and Meharry College of medicine under the auspices of the NMA. In 1967 SNMA became an independant and completely student run organization. On October 4th, 1971, SNMA was incorporated in the District of Columbia. Today SNMA is the oldest and largest run organziation focused on the concerns of medical students of color.
Mission statement. The Student National Medical Association (SNMA) is committed to supporting current and future underrepresented minority medical students, addressing the needs of underserved communities, and increasing the number of clinically excellent, culturally competent and socially conscious physicians.
